Craig A. Jefferies is a 1975 graduate of Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High School where he was named All Inter-High Defensive Back. Upon graduation, he attended Cheyney State University where he was named an All-Pennsylvania Conference Defensive Back and inducted into the Cheyney University Hall of Fame in 1997 in addition to receiving a host of other honors. He is a member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., and graduated from Cheyney with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Special Education in May of 1980.  Currently, Coach Jefferies is a faculty member at Oxon Hill SHS and he taught in the District of Columbia Public Schools System for 29 years. 


In 1982, Coach Jefferies began his coaching career at Dunbar SHS.  He was the defensive coordinator under Luther T. Banner and later served as the assistant head coach from 1987 to 1995 under John T. Nunn.  Subsequently, he was named head football coach at Dunbar in 1996 and has led Dunbar to the DCIAA playoffs twelve of his fifteen years as head coach. 


Coach Jefferies has achieved several honors as Dunbar’s head football coach. These honors include: ten-time DCIAA West Coach of the Year, Washington Post All–Met Coach of the Year in 1999, Pigskin Club of Washington, DC Coach of the Year in 2004, Eastern Board of Officials Coach of the Year in 1999 and 2001. In addition, Coach Jefferies has been the winning coach for three NFL High School Player Development National Passing League Championships (2005-2007).  He also guided Dunbar to thirteen consecutive DCIAA Football Championships, winning eight out of thirteen city title games with an overall record of 130-37. Coach Jefferies served as the Special Teams Coordinator and the Running Backs coach for the prestigious 2008 US Army All-American Bowl, held in San Antonio Texas. He was also named the Special Teams Coordinator and Defensive Backs Coach for the North East All Star Team in the 2009 New Jersey- North East All Star Classic, held in Piscataway, New Jersey. In February 2011, Coach Jefferies was named wide receiver coach for the University of New Mexico. During that season wide receiver Deon Long was named Freshman All American and Ty Kirk was named Honorable Mention All Mountain West Conference. In 2016 Coach Jefferies was named PG County 4-A/3-A Coach of the Year. In 2018 Coach Jefferies was named as the WR Coach  for the Big 33 High School Football Classic in Hershey PA and the RB Coach in 2022.


Coach Jefferies is currently in his 13th season as the Head Football Coach at Oxon Hill SHS in Oxon Hill. Maryland where he is in the process of returning football excellence to the Oxon Hill Clippers football program. In 2016, Coach Jefferies guided the Clippers to a perfect 10-0 regular season along with an appearance in the Maryland State 3-A Regional play-offs. His Clippers football team advanced the following year to the Maryland 3-A State Simi-finals for the team’s first time in twenty-three years. 


In addition to teaching and coaching duties, Coach Jefferies is very active at school and in the community.  He was the faculty sponsor of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is a site coordinator for the NFL High School Player Development Program in Washington, DC. He served on the Minority Affairs Committee of the American Football Coaches Association and participated in numerous youth football development camps and youth coaching clinics.  He is a member of the Prince George’s County Coaches Association, D.C. Coaches Association,National Coalition of Minority Coaches and the American Football Coaches Association, His is an active member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. and is a member of the Zion Church.  


Coach Jefferies is married to Kathryn Holmes of Lynchburg, Virginia and they have four children: Salina, Craig II.,Cherisse and Jarrett.
