About

Darren Jackson joined the Hampton coaching staff in the summer of 2024. He comes to Hampton after spending the last two seasons as the head coach at Sterling (Kan.) College.
 
A native of Gloucester, Va., Jackson has coached on the high school, NAIA, FCS, and FBS levels where he served in various capacities as head coach, defensive coordinator, and special teams coordinator.
 
Prior to his time at Sterling College, he worked at Colorado Mesa for a season after spending a year at Evangel. From 2017-19, he served on the coaching staff at Liberty under Head Coach Turner Gill where he helped the Flames register a seismic win over Big 12-power Baylor.
 
He was the head coach at Trinity Bible for a season. He inherited just 26 players but turned the program around, leading the team to its best record in six seasons. Five of his players earned NCCAA All-America recognition. He also spent a season coaching at University Christian School.
 
Jackson was a member of the staff at Apprentice School for three years where he was special teams coordinator, defensive backs, and linebackers coach. He began his coaching career at Virginia Episcopal School where he coached defensive backs for one season.
 
He earned a bachelor’s degree in Education from Liberty in 2012 and a master’s degree from Liberty in Human Services Counseling-Life Coaching in 2016.
 
He was named to the 2020 American Football Coaches Association’s 35 Under 35 Leadership Class, a program that identifies and develops future leaders in the football coaching profession. Participants attend the institute which features a curriculum of interactive lectures focused on topics tailored to emphasize leadership in the coaching profession, ethics, influential responsibilities, career progression, and family balance.
 
He is married to Tina Jackson and has two sons: Keon and Maceo Jackson.
