Six-time Mid-American Conference Video Coordinator of the Year Jay McDowell begins his 15th year at Central Michigan as the Chippewa’s Football program Video Coordinator.
Affectionately known as “Jay-Mac” by those in and around the Chippewa football program, McDowell oversees all of the football program's information technology including its state-of-the-art video analysis system, the XOS game exchange system, nearly a dozen student workers, the maintenance of the recruiting video database, manages the Chippewas' iPad video and playbook system, coordinates the filming of all practices and games, the production of highlight films and graphics.
In his 32-year career as a video coordinator, McDowell has won a total of eight conference Video Coordinator of the Year awards from the Collegiate Sports Video Association. He has won the award six times at Central Michigan and earned the honor in each of the last five consecutive years: 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023.
Prior to his current position, McDowell served as Director of Video Operations and Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Technology at the University of Southern Mississippi for five years from 2005-10. He was also the Director of Video Operations at the University of Louisiana-Monroe for five years (1998-04) and his experience includes positions at Colorado and McNeese State (1995-98) as well.
A Louisiana native, McDowell earned his bachelor's degree in mass communication/media studies from McNeese State University in 1996.
