Micah Brown, a Florida native now residing in Nova Scotia, is entering his fourth year with the Saint Mary's University Football program as the Director of Football Analytics and Receivers Coach. Throughout his tenure at Saint Mary’s, Coach Brown has held key positions, including Receivers Coach and Running Backs Coach, demonstrating his adaptability and deep offensive expertise.
In his role as Director of Football Analytics, Coach Brown will continue to elevate the Saint Mary's football program by leveraging data-driven insights to enhance player performance, optimize game strategies, and provide the coaching staff with detailed analyses of both offensive and defensive plays. By integrating cutting-edge football analytics, technologies, and systems, he aims to improve decision-making processes, increase efficiency, and identify key areas for player and program development. His innovative approach ensures that the Huskies are well-prepared for each game, maintaining a strategic edge over their competitors. Additionally, Brown will continue to mentor the receivers, building on the success of the previous season and fostering the next generation of standout athletes.
In the 2023 season, Coach Brown's leadership and coaching acumen were highlighted by the performance of his receivers. He guided Liam Stewart to an AUS All-Star selection with 404 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns, while Trydell Mintis followed closely with 336 yards and 4 touchdowns. Coach Brown was also instrumental in Saint Mary's 2018 season, contributing to a 7-1 overall record and a Loney Bowl appearance.
Brown is also the Offensive Coordinator for Football Ontario, where his strategies have led the team to back-to-back Silver Medal finishes over the past two years.
Before joining Saint Mary’s, Brown was the Secondary and Defensive Backs Coach at St. Francis Xavier University, where his defensive strategies led to an AUS semi-final appearance and produced two AUS All-Stars: Dylan Bell (FS) and Nathaniel Fermin (HB).
Brown retired in 2017 after an impressive 11-season professional football career as a quarterback, during which he played in 10 countries, including Canada, Germany, Finland, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Poland, France, and Sweden. His career highlights include winning a Gold Medal at the 2011 IFAF World Championships with Team USA, where he was joined by his former Husky teammate and current NFL coach Brandon Jordan, and securing eight championships. Notably, Brown was the second player in Euro-American football history to win two top-division national championships in the same year. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the sport, Brown was inducted into the Euro-American Football Hall of Fame in 2015. In the United States, Brown also played Arena Football in Texas.
Collegiately, Brown's career spanned NCAA Division I (SEC), NCAA Division II (CIAA - HBCU), and NJCAA (JuCo - Mississippi), before he made his way to Saint Mary’s University. At Saint Mary’s, he earned the starting quarterback position, leading his team to a National Semi-Final, capturing the AUS Loney Bowl Championship, and earning Offensive Player of the Year honors. Brown was also a multi-sport athlete, contributing to the varsity basketball and track teams. Brown is a proud Saint Mary’s alumnus, graduating with a double major in Psychology and Sociology in 2013. He also holds a B.Sc. in Business Marketing and Management from Saint Paul’s (USA, 2008), an M.A. in North American Studies from Philipps Universität Marburg (Germany, 2014), and an M.Sc. in Adjunct Sport Science and Biomechanics from Dalhousie University.
Brown's football journey began in high school, where he was recognized as an Elite 11 quarterback finalist, Wendy's High School Heisman winner, and Gatorade Player of the Year (Florida) in 2003. He led his team to a Class 4A District Championship in 2000 and was a Class 4A District Runner-Up in 2001, showcasing his leadership and talent from an early age.
Brown's commitment to football extends beyond coaching; he is a lululemon Legacy Ambassador, reflecting his dedication to community engagement and personal development. He contributes to the academic-sports community through his work with the McCain and McLean Centre for Sport, Business and Health at Saint Mary’s, emphasizing the importance of health, wellness, and business acumen in sports. He is also deeply invested in his community as a philanthropist, having initiated scholarships and funding opportunities, including the BATLX Leadership and Community Excellence Bursary at Saint Mary’s University. Brown was awarded the Saint Mary’s Alumni Award in 2022.
Brown further contributes to the football community as a football analyst for Eastlink Community TV and to the community at large as a member of the Black Wellness Co of Nova Scotia.
An entrepreneur at heart, Brown is the founder of BATLX, a Halifax Business Award for Innovation finalist and Atlantic Canada 40 under 40, is a football-specific training and athletic development company that provides tailored coaching, advanced skill-building techniques, and performance analytics to prepare athletes for success. Through BATLX, he launched the ELITE 8 initiative, a high-intensity flag football league that brings together top youth and high school athletes for competitive play, skill development, and an unforgettable sports experience. Brown also formerly led the Halifax Harbour Hawks, a community-based football organization.
Brown resides in Dartmouth with his wife Kelly, a fellow Saint Mary’s alumna (B.A. 2011), and their son Jaxon, who is already gaining attention for his budding sports career. His oldest son, Jha’Siah, is a high school baseball standout in Virginia, on track to graduate early with an Associate’s Degree and garnering NCAA interest as a shortstop.
