About
Ryan McCormack enters his 1st Season at the FCS-D1 University of Rhode Island “Rams” the reigning 2024 CAA Conference Champions as the Director of Scouting in the spring of 2025. McCormack made the move to Kingston following an 11-year stint at UMass Dartmouth, where he finished his tenure as the running backs coach/recruiting coordinator.
McCormack was instrumental in helping the UMASS Dartmouth program accomplish three straight MASCAC Conference titles (2022,2023 & 2024 Seasons) and 2 NCAA D3 playoff berths. Additionally, in his time with Corsairs, McCormack played a pivotal role in recruiting several key players from around New England, New York, New Jersey, South Carolina, Louisiana, Texas and Florida. Under his guidance, the UMass Dartmouth offense led the MASCAC in total offense and in addition to three straight MASCAC Conference titles won the 2021 New England Bowl by defeating Alfred State 42-16 with an offensive production of 621 yards. Most Impressive In his most recent and final season of 2024 with the Corsairs, the offense averaged 51.7 Points per game which accounted for the 3rd best scoring offense not only in NCAA Division III Football statistically but among all levels of NCAA Football. This upcoming 2025 season will be Coach McCormack’s 26th Season Coaching Football and 18th at the NCAA Level.
In 2024, UMass Dartmouth became Back-2-Back-2-Back MASCAC Conference Champions after going 9-0 in the MASCAC Conference and winning the Conference Crown outright. The Corsairs were 10-1 overall and an impressive record of 5-0 at home. In 2024 the Corsairs obtained their 4th Consecutive trip to the post season being selected to play in the 2024 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. UMASS Dartmouth has been an impressive 21-0 at home with four consecutive 9 or more-win seasons over the last four seasons.
During the 2024 Season the Corsair Running Backs had another elite caliber year with five different running backs averaging 6-yards per-carry or more, of which three averaged over 6-yards per-carry, one averaged over 9-yards per-carry, and one averaged an astounding 11-yards per-carry average. In the 2024 season the Corsair rushing attack churned up on the ground a total of 2579 Net yards averaging 234.5 Net yards per contest.
In 2023, UMass Dartmouth became Back-2-Back MASCAC Conference Champions after going 7-1 in the MASCAC Conference and winning a share of the Conference Crown. The Corsairs were 9-2 overall and an impressive record of 5-0 at home. In 2023 the Corsairs obtained their 3rd Consecutive trip to the post season, being selected to play in the coveted New England Bowl Series game. UMASS Dartmouth have been impressive 16-0 at home with three consecutive 9-win seasons over the last three seasons.
During the 2023 Season the Corsair Running Backs had another elite caliber year with five different running backs averaging 4.8-yards per-carry or more, of which two averaged over 6-yards per-carry, and one averaged an astounding 9.3-yards per-carry average. In the 2023 season the Corsair rushing attack churned up on the ground a total of 2212 Net yards averaging 201.1 Net yards per contest. The Corsair Offense in 2023 was again special averaging 419 Total Offensive yards per game which had them ranked second in the MASCAC, and thirty-second in the Nation among NCAA Division III opponents. Senior Corsair running back Luis Gonzalez during the 2023 season averaged an Impressive 6.39 yards per carry with a total of 939 Net yards gained and 14 rushing touchdowns. Gonzalez earned 2nd team All MASCAC Conference as a Senior and amassed an astounding career 2896 net yards gained, 5.3 yards per carry and 40 rushing touchdowns. Gonzalez ended his career ranked 18th in the Nation in active Career rushing yards and 15th in the Nation in active Career Rushing Touchdowns among Division III NCAA Football.
During the 2022 Season the Corsair Running Backs had an elite caliber year with seven different running backs averaging 5-yards per-carry or more, of which four averaged over 7-yards per-carry, and one averaged an astounding 9.9-yards per-carry average. In the 2022 season the Corsair rushing attack churned up on the ground a total of 2564 Net yards averaging 233.1 Net yards per contest. The Corsair Offense in 2022 was special averaging 532 Total Offensive yards per game which had them ranked first in the MASCAC, first in New England, and third in the Nation among NCAA Division III opponents. Additionally, Among All levels of NCAA competition (Division 1-FCS & FBS, Division II & Division III) the Corsair Offense Ranked fifth in the Nation Overall. In 2022, UMass Dartmouth were the 8-0 Undefeated MASCAC Conference Champions, with an overall record of 9-2, home record of 5-0 and a berth in the 2022 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
During the 2021 Season McCormack managed an experienced group of running backs which included 2021 All-MASCAC two-headed machine of Luis Gonzalez and Marvens Jean. Gonzalez and Jean ended the 2021 season ranked second and third in rushing yards in the MASCAC. Marvens Jean ended the 2021 season ranked third in the nation in Division III in yards per carry averaging 7.57 yards per rush. The 2021 Corsair Offense was ranked first in the MASCAC, first in New England, and 26th in the nation in total offense. In 2021, UMass Dartmouth was the post-season New England Bowl Champions defeating Alfred State 42-16 with an offensive production of 621 yards.
Since joining UMass Dartmouth, McCormack has played a pivotal role in recruiting several of the Corsairs' key players.
Prior to his arrival, McCormack served as the defensive coordinator at Mt. Hope High School for the past two seasons, where his charges earned a berth in the Rhode Island State Playoffs in 2012 and 2013. McCormack also sandwiched a one-year stint at Rogers High School between two stretches at Middletown High. Between 2007 and 2011 McCormack Coached in five Rhode Island Interscholastic League State Title Games and won a State Title while at Middletown High School.
Between 2000 and 2006, McCormack was responsible for a variety of roles on the staff of his alma mater, Salve Regina. During his six seasons with the Seahawks, he served as a graduate assistant and recruiting coordinator before being promoted to defensive coordinator and defensive linemen coach. He mentored nine defensive all conference players, while also tutoring the Hal Chalmers Award recipient, honoring the top student athlete in the New England Football Conference. In the 2000 season the Seahawks were the NEFC Boyd Division Champions and NEFC Conference Runner-ups.
Previous to his 25 years of coaching experience, McCormack was a four-year member of the Salve Regina football team, where he played on the defensive line and handled the long-snapping duties. He helped the Seahawks capture four conference championships, three ECAC Bowl Championship appearances and was a 1998 ECAC Bowl Champion. In the 1997 season McCormack was part of the Salve Regina Defensive Line that created the number one overall leader in total Defense in the country.
A 2000 graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in administration of justice represented the Division III student-athlete model, earning Magna Cum Laude honors. In the spring of 2003, he earned his master’s degree in administration of justice from Salve Regina.
